The fashion of wearing beads for decoration probably dates back to over 7,000 years ago, when hard stones such as agates were first made into beads. They were traded throughout the Indian Ocean countries for thousands of years and highly prized because of their decorative value and lightness. Glass beads were first thought to have been made around 2,500 years ago in Southern India by stretching out thin tubes of coloured glass and cutting them into "seed" beads.

Today there is a wonderful array of colourful beads made from glass, crystal and stones to suit every taste and every occasion. Each of these miniature jewels are works of art in themselves, but the real craft is in creating an item of jewellery that is as individual as you are.
